Homebuilder short interest slips in September 1st half

Average short interest among U.S. homebuilders fell 11 basispoints to 7.87% of outstanding shares between Aug. 31 and Sept. 15.

Beazer HomesUSA Inc. saw the greatest decrease in short interest relative toshares outstanding among SNL-covered homebuilders during that period.The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to sharesoutstanding dropped 199 basis points to 13.92% as of Sept. 15.

WCICommunities Inc. reached the top of the list of homebuilders withthe largest rises in short interest in the first half of September. The companysaw short interest increase 173 basis points to 5.31% of shares outstanding atthe end of the period.

LGI HomesInc. topped the list of most-shorted homebuilders between Aug. 31and Sept. 15. The company saw short interest climb 170 basis points to 23.52%of shares outstanding.
