The U.S. government approved a potential sale of 32 Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 fighter jets valued at about $6.5 billion to the Polish military, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Sept. 11.
The proposed sale will support U.S. foreign policy and national security by improving the security of Poland, a NATO ally. It would also enhance Poland's defense capability to deter aggression in the region.
The Polish government plans to upgrade its Air Force fleet by replacing its Su-22s and MiG-29s with F-35s. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of the possible sale.
Poland would negotiate the value of the transaction once the U.S. Congress clears it, the Financial Times reported, citing Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
