Weatherford inks $220M drilling services contract with ADNOC offshore unit

Weatherford International PLC signed a $220 million, 3-year contract to provide directional drilling services for Abu Dhabi Co. for Offshore Petroleum Operations Ltd. as it aims to increase offshore production in the United Arab Emirates.

The contract involves the use of Weatherford's proprietary Magnus rotary steerable system in both re-entry wells and new wells, according to a Sept. 24 release. The system includes independently controllable steering pads that maximize reservoir exposure, the company said.

Abu Dhabi Co. for Offshore Petroleum Operations, also known as ADNOC Offshore, was formed by consolidating state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Co.'s Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co. and Zakum Development Co.
