Boskalis Vanguard delivering Johan Sverdrup topside to Norway

Norwegian-firm Equinor announced Dec. 19 the transport vessel Boskalis Vanguard is delivering the processing topside for the Johan Sverdrup processing platform from South Korea to Norway.

Boskalis Vanguard, the world's largest heavy-transport vessel, is shipping the platform to the Kvaerner yard on Stord. It will be lifted into position at the Johan Sverdrup field in one single lift by the Pioneering Spirit vessel in the spring of 2019.

Aker Solutions was tapped for the engineering and procurement management for the processing topside as well as or the riser topside which sailed from a yard on Geoje island in February. Samsung Heavy Industries, which handled the construction of the riser topside, will do the same for the processing topside.

The first development phase is estimated at a cost of 86 billion Norwegian kroner, while the cost of the second phase is estimated at 41 billion Norwegian kroner.

Total field resources are estimated at 2.2 billion to 3.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

As of Dec. 18, US$1 was equivalent to 8.73 Norwegian kroner.
