The International Olympic Committee, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal Media LLC have teamed up to launch a new U.S. television network under the "Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA" brand.
The new network, which will be launched under the Olympic Channel content and distribution partnership in the U.S., will air Olympic-sport programming from around the world, while focusing on American athletes and teams, according to a Dec. 15 news release.
The partnership includes additional coverage of Olympic sports programs that will appear exclusively on other NBCU platforms, including NBC (US), NBCSN (US) and NBC Sports Digital outlets. The partnership will kick off with the Team USA Winter Champions Series on Dec. 17. Further, the IOC, USOC and NBCU will produce and distribute Olympic sports and Olympic-themed programming on a year-round basis.
Additional details about the launch of the new linear cable channel will be provided at a later date, the company said. The Olympic Channel will also develop localized versions that will offer region- and language-specific user experiences on linear and digital platforms in certain territories.
