United American sends cease-and-desist notice to Snap corporate clients

United American Corp. sent cease-and-desist notices to Snap Inc. corporate clients that use SnapChat Geofilters.

The company said Oct. 5 that while many companies such as Walt Disney Co. have been using the Geofilters as a part of their promotional campaigns without being aware of the situation, they can now be held liable as "induced infringer" since they ultimately contribute directly to the alleged patent infringement.

Further, UnitedCorp will provide the companies it notifies, the opportunity to discuss various iFramed licensing options.

Previously, United American sent a cease-and-desist notice to Snap after it received a notice of allowance from the U.S. Patent Office for its geolocation-based image overlay technology.
