Twitter bars Dataminr from providing services to US intelligence agencies

Twitter Inc.barred Dataminr Inc. from providing U.S. intelligence agencies access toreal-time stream of public tweets, TheWall Street Journal reported May 8, citing a senior U.S. intelligenceofficial and other sources.

Twitter reportedly owns a 5% stake in Dataminr, which is aprivate company that mines public Twitter feeds for clients. Sources said themove was part of Twitter's efforts to distance itself from intelligence agencies.

The micro-blogging service has a policy that stops thirdparties from accessing and selling its data to a government agency forsurveillance purposes.
