Varian acquires software company Noona to bolster cancer care portfolio

Varian Medical Systems Inc. said it is acquiring privately held software company Noona Healthcare Oy to expand its cancer care portfolio.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in Varian's Oct. 12 press release.

Finland-based Noona, which also has an office in Palo Alto, Calif., develops cloud-based, mobile services to help healthcare professionals monitor the well-being of patients with breast cancer.

Varian said the Noona software application is used to collect patient-reported outcome data, manage communications and enable clinical studies that will test the effectiveness of cancer treatments.

The medical device-maker plans to combine its 360 Oncology SaaS platform with Noona's user interface to let patients actively engage with their cancer care team through recovery and post-treatment care.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Varian manufactures and sells medical devices and software products to treat cancer and other medical conditions.
