Mitsubishi's flagship Outlander PHEV to get engine upgrade

Japanese automobile manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Corp. on Feb. 20 said that its 2019 Outlander PHEV will come with a significant engine upgrade.

The latest Outlander, which is the company's flagship vehicle, will be unveiled at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland from March 6 to March 18.

The 2019 version of the Mitsubishi plug-in hybrid electric SUV will be powered by a 2.4-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine, replacing the Otto cycle 2.0-liter engine in the current PHEV model. The company said the new engine will enable higher torque, smoother operation and better efficiency.

It will also feature two new four-wheel drive settings — sport and snow — in addition to the normal and four-wheel drive lock modes.

Additionally, the company will showcase its e-Evolution concept vehicle for the first time in Europe at the auto show. The technical prototype will be designed to showcase the strategic directions of Mitsubishi Motors and will incorporate SUV and EV features.
