Indian telco Idea Cellular will roll out a variety of apps to begin its Digital Idea initiative, The Economic Times (India) reported Jan. 26.
Its planned Jan. 30 debut of apps for movies, music, TV, games and more is part of its plan to convert into a "full-service digital solutions company," Himanshu Kapania, managing director of Idea Cellular, told the newspaper.
The move is reportedly intended to counter new Indian telco player Reliance Jio Infocomm's offer of free voice and data services in addition to a suite of apps.
Reliance Jio is owned by Reliance Industries Ltd.
