Zalando SE on Sept. 18 said it has teamed up with Finnish startup RePack to launch a four-week pilot to test reusable packaging for customer deliveries.
The German online retailer said the new shipping bag will be similar to existing Zalando envelopes but customers will be able to return the bag by mailing it back to a central location using a return label. It expects the move to reduce packaging waste as the same packaging can be used repeatedly for shipping and returns.
As part of its sustainable packaging initiative, Zalando already uses boxes made from 100% recycled paper and mailing bags made from 80% post-consumer recycled material for its business. It also recently converted beauty bags from plastic to 100% recycled paper, according to the release.
