Report: Judge orders phone companies to block WhatsApp

BrazilianJudge Marcel Montalvao ordered phone companies in the country to block accessto Facebook Inc.'sWhatsApp for 72 hours starting May 2, Bloomberg News reported May 2, citing astatement posted on the court's website.

The messaging app was blocked after it reportedly failed toprovide information that was sought as part of a criminal probe. In a statement,WhatsApp said it does not have that information and has cooperated fully withthe authorities.

In December 2015, WhatsApp was ordered to be for 48 hours for failingto comply with two judicial rulings, but the suspension was lifted after 12hours.
