Amazon expands office space in India

Amazon.com Inc.'s Indian unit has leased 450,000 square feet of office space in the city of Chennai, The Economic Times of India reported Oct. 18, citing two people with knowledge of the matter.

The office space will be occupied in two phases, the sources told the news outlet. Amazon reportedly will take up 200,000 square feet of office space in the first phase, with an option to expand it to 450,000 square feet over the next 1.5 years.

The company's new campus will be at Ramanujan IT City, a technology park in Chennai, The Economic Times said.

According to the report, the deal is Amazon India's second office space transaction in 2017; it had earlier leased 600,000 square feet of office space in Hyderabad.
