Nuclear update: Total output bests year-ago level as 2 reactors return

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability ticked higherearly Oct. 5 to 83.63%, up from 83.03% on Oct. 4 and also holding above the81.95% reported on the same day last year.

Supporting total U.S. output was the full return oftwo reactors. Duke EnergyCorp.'s Brunswick 1 in North Carolina was at 100% power early Oct.5, rising from 72% Oct. 4. ExelonCorp.'s Byron 1 in Illinois saw output increase from 71% on Oct. 4to 100% power early Oct. 5.
