Japanese toiletries maker Lion Corp. plans to produce Japan-themed toothpaste exclusively for Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., the Nikkei Asian Review reported Aug 10.
The Nikkei wrote that Lion intends to sell matcha-scented toothpaste under its Systema brand on Alibaba's e-commerce platform Tmall, with a 22.9 Chinese yuan price tag. According to the report, Japanese cosmetics and sanitary goods are popular among China's middle class.
Lion's subsidiary in Qingdao, Shandong province, will handle production.
The company is also looking to expand its internet sales staff to 25 or 30 by the end of 2017 from 10 the previous year to strengthen local online sales of its health products, the report added.
As of Aug. 10, US$1 was equivalent to 6.66 Chinese yuan.
