The board of Virginia-based C&F Financial Corp. appointed Thomas Cherry CEO of the company and its subsidiary Citizens and Farmers Bank, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

Cherry has been president of the company and the bank since December 2014 and will remain a board member.

Cherry succeeds Larry Dillon, who will continue as executive chairman of the company's board following his resignation as CEO on Dec. 31.
