Fifth ThirdBancorp terminated chief legal officer and corporate secretaryHeather Koenig late in the week of July 18, TheWall Street Journal reported July 25, citing "people familiar with thematter."
The report quoted the bank as saying in a statement that apersonal matter has been brought to its attention that it believes represents aconflict of interest. "To resolve this, we have determined that the bestcourse of action was a separation. Heather is a very qualified lawyer, and thismatter has nothing to do with any of the legal work done by Heather during hertenure at Fifth Third," the bank said, according to the newspaper.
The WSJ sought butdid not immediately get a comment from Koenig, whose replacement is yet to be known.
