TXU Energy scores $473M contract to power Dallas city facilities with wind

TXU Energy Retail Co. LLC entered into a $472.6 million contract with the City of Dallas to power city facilities with wind energy for a decade.

Tradition Energy, the city's procurement adviser, conducted a reverse auction that found TXU's offer was more advantageous than unsolicited proposals presented to the city in the past year, according to a press release. The projected contract includes energy costs as well as the costs of delivering the power across Oncor Electric Delivery Co. LLC's grid.

The city says it expects to save nearly $80 million in energy costs. Dallas will draw power and renewable energy credits from the Foard City Wind Project, a planned 350 MW wind farm. Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. subsidiary Alterra Power Corp. owns the wind farm. Innergex says the wind farm, which is under construction, will be its largest.
