said May 9 that itexpects lost production of about 35,000 tonnes and US$5 million in damages followingan explosion and fire at its North Star BlueScope Steel facility in Ohio on May7.
According tothe company, a refractory failure allowed a wash-out of molten steel from the SouthElectronic Arc Furnace, or EAF, shell, leading to the incident. Emergency servicesresponded quickly and controlled the fire.
All workersand contractors are safe, and BlueScope Steel is evaluating the damage.
The facilitycontinues steel production via the second EAF.
