Indian government appoints directors to insurers' boards

The government of India appointed nonofficial directors to the boards of several public sector insurance companies.

The appointments committee of the Cabinet said Sept. 29 that it approved the appointment of 15 nonofficial directors to the boards of Life Insurance Corp. of India, General Insurance Corp. of India, Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd., United India Insurance Co. Ltd., National Insurance Co. Ltd. and New India Assurance Co. Ltd.

Bimalendu Chakrabarti, Ravindra Nath Chaturvedi and R. Chandrasekaran were appointed directors of Life Insurance Corp.

Amarendra Pratap Singh, V. Ramasamy and G.B. Pandey were named directors of General Insurance.

Milind Anna Kharat, Panchanan Nayak and Aseem Chawla were appointed directors at Oriental Insurance.

Parijat Dutta was named director at United India.

Sivaraman M. and Sudhakar Pahi were appointed to the board of National Insurance.

Samir Kumar Banerjee, Sanjeev Kumar Chanana and Kuldip Singh were appointed directors of New India Assurance.
