Ford Motor Co. plans to produce two midsize battery-electric crossovers for its Ford and Lincoln brands at its Flat Rock assembly plant near Detroit by late 2022 or early 2023, Automotive News reported Aug. 19, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The new 2023 model vehicles, code-named CDX746 and CDX747, were supposed to be manufactured in Cuautitlan, Mexico, but Ford transferred the production to the Flat Rock plant, the report said. The company has reportedly asked its suppliers to ready for a production rate of up to 65,000 units annually, the auto industry website added.
In an emailed response to S&P Global Market Intelligence, a Ford spokesperson declined to comment on "speculation" around future vehicles.
In August 2018, Ford canceled its plan to sell its China-built Focus Active compact car to the U.S. due to the Trump administration's tariffs on Chinese imports.
