Avangrid nominates 4 new director candidates to diversify board

Avangrid Inc. has nominated four new director candidates for election at its annual meeting on June 27 to diversify its board.

These board nominees are Robert Duffy, president and CEO of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce; Teresa Herbert, CFO and senior vice president of Independence Holding Co.; Patricia Jacobs, president of AT&T New England; and Sonsoles Rubio Reinoso, internal audit director of Iberdrola SA.

The election of these nominees would increase the percentage of women to the Avangrid board to nearly 36% and the number of independent board members to 50%, the company said May 22.

Power companies have been pulling women from the fossil fuel, financial, technology and other sectors to bolster board diversity. The electric utility sector has been among the most diverse industries at the leadership level in recent years, according to nonprofit 2020 Women on Board.
