A+E Networks makes acquisition deals in South Korea

A+E Networks is buying a stake in South Korean entertainment company iHQ and also acquired two local channels in the country, Deadline reported Dec. 21.

The two Korean channels, FoodTV and TVIS, will be rebranded in 2017 as Lifetime and History, respectively. They will feature original local content as well as A+E's popular franchises.

A+E Networks plans to use the partnership with iHQ and its majority shareholder, South Korean cable TV operator D'Live, to distribute the channels across different platforms.

A+E will also launch its digital content and products in South Korea, while iHQ will work to expand its brands and content outside of the country.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and it will be subject to regulatory approval.
