Norsk Hydro to double output at Husnes aluminum smelter

Norsk Hydro ASA decided to upgrade and restart the second production line at Hydro Husnes in Norway, which will double the production of primary aluminum at the smelter.

The expected total investment for the upgrade and restart, following a final build decision in the third quarter of 2018, is 1.3 billion Norwegian kroner.

Production at the Husnes smelter will increase to about 190,000 tonnes of aluminum per annum, from about 95,000 tonnes currently, the company said Dec. 14.

The line, which was shut down in 2009, is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2020.

As of Dec. 13, US$1 was equivalent to 8.37 Norwegian kroner.
