India's Viacom 18 debuts advertising-led VOD platform

India's Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd. launched on March 29 its advertising-led video-on-demandplatform named Voot.

Users of the service will be able to watch original content front-linedby local actors, scriptwriters and directors. Voot has lined up six original productionsduring its launch period, including mockumentary "Badman."

Viacom 18 will also make its channels such as Colors, MTV andNick available on Voot. Further, audiences can watch reality-themed shows exclusiveto the platform through its "content around content" category.

COO Gaurav Gandhi of Viacom 18's digital arm Viacom 18 DigitalVentures said that they will look into applying freemium and subscription-basedVOD models for Voot in the future.

Voot is accessible online and via mobile devices running on 's iOS and -owned Google Inc.'s Android. It was developed by Prime Focus Ltd.'s technology arm Prime FocusTechnologies.

Viacom 18 is a joint venture between Viacom Inc. and India's Network18 Group.
