Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA won an order from alfanar Group to supply turbines with a combined capacity of 453 MW for two wind farms in the Indian state of Gujarat.
The deal is the first in India between alfanar and Siemens Gamesa, according to an Aug. 13 news release.
The Spanish wind turbine manufacturer will supply and install 206 units for the projects, located in Bhuj, according to the news release.
Upon commissioning in 2020, one project will have a capacity of 202 MW, while the other will generate 251 MW.
Alfanar Global Development CEO Jamal Wadi said the company plans to develop more than 3,000 MW of renewable projects in India. India is ranked fourth in global wind power installed capacity, according to the Global Wind Energy Council.
Onshore potential for wind stands at 300 GW, of which only 35 GW have been tapped, according to the news release. The Indian government aims to achieve 65 GW of cumulative wind power capacity by 2022.
