Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and Marvel Studios LLC will not be collaborating on future "Spider-Man" releases amid a dispute over revenue sharing between the studios' parent companies Sony Corp. and Walt Disney Co., Deadline.com reported Aug. 20, citing sources with knowledge of the details.
According to the report, Disney demanded a 50-50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, but Sony declined to accept those terms. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will now not produce future "Spider-Man" movies, Sony Pictures confirmed in a tweet.
While calling the move disappointing, Sony Pictures said the news about "Spider-Man" has "mischaracterized" recent talks about Feige's involvement in the franchise.
Feige was involved in the production of "Spider-Man: Far From Home," which hit theaters July 2 and brought to a close the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It topped the box office charts with a $185.1 million haul over its six-day opening week.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. recently agreed to fully acquire U.S.-based Insomniac Games Inc., the developer of PlayStation games "Marvel's Spider-Man" and the "Ratchet & Clank" franchise.
