India considering Apple's tax exemption request

India is considering the tax and policy changes Apple Inc. sought in exchange for setting up iPhone assembly units, Reuters reported, citing Ramesh Abhishek, a top official at India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

In addition to the concessions, Apple is also seeking permission to open its own retail stores in India, which recently granted Chinese smartphone maker Oppo permission to open its own single-brand stores, making the path smoother for the iPhone maker.
