Markel International Ltd.'s Mumbai office is now open and actively writing business.

Deepika Mathur heads the Mumbai office. She most recently served as executive vice president at HDFC ERGO General Insurance Co. Ltd.

In June, India's insurance regulator granted Markel International a license to write reinsurance business in the country. Markel India provides specialist facultative reinsurance to local Indian insurers, in a broad range of commercial classes including marine, energy, contingency, and professional and financial risks.
