Google settles 2015 back taxes in Indonesia

Google Inc. settled the back taxes it owed to the Indonesian government, the Jakarta Globe reported, citing Antara News.

According to the report, Google Indonesia used to book its advertising revenue under Singapore-based Google Asia Pacific, but Indonesian tax authorities maintained that its revenue must be taxed in Indonesia.

An earlier report indicated that the Alphabet Inc. unit had five years' worth of unpaid taxes in Indonesia, with an expected tax bill of nearly $418 million for 2015 alone.

In March 2017, Google agreed to pay its tax bill in Indonesia through a package deal that included fines and other arrears.

Since early 2016, U.S. tech giants such as Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc., Yahoo! and Google have been under the lens of the Indonesian government over tax avoidance.
