Telefónica SA's Movistar+ intends to roll out its 4K enabled set-top box in the first half of 2018, Digital TV Europe reported Oct. 17.
The set-top box is presently in its trial phase with certain users, the report said, citing Ismael Calleja Baldominos, Movistar+'s head of business affairs, series and movies original programming. The pay TV operator's upcoming originals like "Velvet Coleccion" and "La Zona" will be filmed in 4K and the first seasons of two current originals, "Verguenza" and "La Peste," will be available in HD, Calleja said while speaking at an event.
While the company reportedly intends to film the second seasons of current shows and new series from 2018 in high dynamic range, or HDR, it has not decided whether Movistar+ will offer HDR. However, the set-top boxes are compatible with both 4K and HDR, according to Calleja.
Telefónica's Latin American affiliates will co-finance upcoming projects, Calleja said.
