Kingfisher's B&Q to ax 200 senior roles

Kingfisher Plc-owned B&Q plc will slash about 200 senior roles in the company in a bid to cut costs, The Telegraph reported Jan. 30, citing Helena Feltham, B&Q's human resource director.

The home improvement retailer will lay off 130 employees in its Southampton head office and 70 "field-based" workers, but no in-store roles would be affected, the news outlet said. Feltham told The Telegraph that the lay-offs would "improve efficiency, simplify ways of working and reflect recent changes in the market and number of B&Q stores."

B&Q reportedly is consulting with the affected workers and their union body, the National People's Forum.

The news came less than two weeks after fellow U.K. retailer Tesco Plc said it was getting rid of 1,700 management roles.
