Canadian housing starts totaled 229,737 units for February, up from 215,260 units in January.
The six-month moving average of the monthly seasonally annual rates, or SAAR, of housing starts came in at 225,276 units in February from 216,210 units in January.
The SAAR of urban starts rose 7.1% to 211,211 units while rural starts came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 18,526 units.
Meanwhile, Statistics Canada reported that the new housing price index once again remained at 103.3 in January.
Year over year, new home prices rose 3.2%, with Vancouver and London posting the largest 12-month increases among the surveyed cities.
