Tesla Inc. could add another assembly line at its facility in Fremont, Calif., Bloomberg News reported Sept. 9, citing a city application.

Tesla's Fremont facility, which spans 5.3 million square feet of manufacturing and office space, employs more than 10,000 workers, according to the company's website.
Tesla purchased the site from General Motors Co. and Toyota Motor Corp.'s now-defunct venture, New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., in 2010.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly has previously said the company has been running several lines to produce the Model 3, S and X to meet demands for its electric cars.
In the second quarter, the company said orders placed during the second quarter exceeded deliveries. It reported higher production numbers year over year during the three-month period.
In July, Bloomberg reported that Tesla is preparing to boost production at its Fremont facility by adding more staff. In an internal email obtained by the news outlet, Tesla's automotive president Jerome Guillen reportedly told staff to tell "friends and neighbors that we have lots of exciting new positions open, both in Fremont and at Giga."
Tesla's Gigafactory, which is outside Sparks, Nev., produces electric motors and battery packs for Model 3 cars, as well as Tesla's energy storage products, Powerwall and Powerpack.
