SpartanNash fiscal Q3 profit climbs YOY

SpartanNash Co. said its normalized net income for the fiscal third quarter ended Oct. 8 was 52 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 53 cents per share.

EPS increased year over year from 50 cents.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $19.2 million, a gain from $18.5 million in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin rose to 1.1% from 1.0% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue climbed on an annual basis to $1.80 billion from $1.78 billion, and total operating expenses climbed from the prior-year period to $1.77 billion from $1.74 billion.

Reported net income grew 12.1% year over year to $16.6 million, or 45 cents per share, from $14.8 million, or 40 cents per share.
