KCP&L to purchase 500 MW from 2 Mo. wind projects

Kansas CityPower & Light Co. has agreed to purchase 500 MW of wind powerfrom two new facilities in its service region.

The GreatPlains Energy Inc. subsidiary said April 7 that power from the200-MW Osborn and 300-MW RockCreek projects will increase its total wind energy portfolio tonearly 1,400 MW.

NextEra EnergyResources LLC is developing Osborn in DeKalb County, Mo., which isexpected to reach commercial operations by the end of this year, whileTradeWind Energy developing Rock Creek in Atchison County, Mo., which is expected to reachcommercial operations by September 2017.

The projects will connect directly to the 345-kV MidwestTransmission Project the company is building with the for easy deliveryof electricity to KCP&L's service region. Theline is scheduled to be in service in summer 2017.
