Report: As operational challenges prevail, ConocoPhillips Canada to cut up to 300 jobs

ConocoPhillipsCanada's staff have been informed of its plans to cut about 250 to300 jobs in September as part of a global staff realignment to meet futureactivity levels, The Canadian Press reported July 22, citing ConocoPhillipsspokesman Rob Evans.

ConocoPhillips' operations in Canada has fallen behindcompared to some of the company's other operations, with low commodity prices aswell as rise in corporate and regulatory costs partly contributing to thecompany's challenges, Evans said in the report.

Most of the job cuts in Canada will come fromConocoPhillips' head office in Calgary, the report said. This ispart of the company's plan to cut around 1,000 jobs across its North Americanoperations.

Prior to the planned layoff, ConocoPhillips inSeptember 2015. The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers has projected aloss of least 44,000 direct jobs in the oil and gas industry since thedownturn, the report said.
