FERC OKs construction on Eastern Shore Natural Gas expansion project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted Eastern Shore Natural Gas Co. permission to begin building part of its almost $98.6 million system expansion project, which will provide additional transportation service for utilities and businesses in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

FERC staff issued the authorization on Feb. 2, limiting construction activities to the Parkesburg and Fair Hill loops in Chester County, Pa., and Cecil County, Md.

The commission issued a certificate order for the 2017 Expansion project on Oct. 4, 2017. The project will provide 61,162 Dth/d of additional firm transportation service from interconnections with Texas Eastern Transmission LP and Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. LLC in Pennsylvania to Eastern Shore's delivery zones.

The system upgrade project will consist of six pipeline loops of various diameters along the Eastern Shore system; a 16.9-mile-long mainline extension in Sussex County, Del.; an additional 3,750-horsepower gas-fired compressor unit and other facilities at a compressor station in Chester County, Pa.; upgraded and larger mainline taps, piping and valves at a meter and regulator station in Lancaster County, Pa.; and two pressure control stations in Sussex County.

Eastern Shore is a Chesapeake Utilities Corp. unit. (FERC docket CP17-28)
