Southern Power, Recurrent energize Calif. solar facility

Southern Power Co. and Recurrent Energy LLC energized the 200-MW Garland solar project in Kern County, Calif., the companies said in Dec. 14 news release.

The Southern Co. subsidiary owns a 51% stake in the facility, while Recurrent Energy holds the remaining ownership interest. Construction of the 2,000-acre facility began in November 2015.

The output and associated renewable energy credits of the Garland facility will be sold to Southern California Edison Co. under two long-term power purchase agreements. SoCalEd, an Edison International subsidiary, will have the option to keep or sell the RECs.

Recurrent Energy is a Canadian Solar Inc. subsidiary.
