BBC Studios Ltd. will launch a three-year culture and engagement plan in early 2020 in an effort to improve the overall experience of working in the company.
The British Broadcasting Corp. unit also aims to form a "more integrated, collaborative culture" by 2023, wherein "diverse individuals feel more included."
In addition, BBC Studios will put in place new metrics and actions based on the findings of a company staff survey.
BBC Studios' announcements are part of its response to a recently released audit by the National Audit Office, or NAO, which recommended the company "develop a clear plan for closing the cultural gap between the production and distribution arms of BBC Studios." The NAO has been granted access to audit the BBC's commercial activities from April 2017.
The NAO also recommended BBC Studios put together nonfinancial performance indicators in 2020 to fill in "gaps in its reporting."
In response, the company said that the BBC's board "actively monitors and reviews" BBC Studios' overall performance quarterly and through its commercial holdings board. This board will look into detailed nonfinancial performance metrics alongside financial performance.
The government agency also recommended the BBC look into the effectiveness of governance improvements.
The BBC board, BBC commercial holdings board and the commercial group strategy subcommittee of the executive team, in line with the company's amendment of terms in September 2019, review and approve the strategic objectives of the BBC's commercial subsidiaries, including BBC Studios.
BBC Studios was formed from the merger of BBC Worldwide and the old BBC Studios.
