Travelex takes all systems offline following cyberattack

U.K.-based foreign exchange company Travelex confirmed that it immediately took all its systems offline as a precautionary measure after discovering a software virus on Dec. 31, 2019, that compromised some of its services.

Travelex, a subsidiary brand of London-listed, Abu Dhabi-based payments firm Finablr PLC, said it is currently providing foreign exchange services manually in a bid to protect customers' data and prevent the spread of the virus. The company is also working with IT specialists and external cybersecurity experts to deal with the affected systems.

Travelex said its investigation thus far shows no indication that any personal or customer data has been compromised.

Finablr said it is closely monitoring the situation at the unit, noting that its six other brands are operating normally and are not affected by Travelex's IT issues.
