Netflix Inc. is ramping up its international content slate with India as a "super priority market," The Economic Times (India) reported.
The country will get increased investments in the development and production of original content, Erik Barmack, vice president, International Originals at Netflix told ET. The streaming giant will reportedly commission four to five new original shows in the next six months.
Moreover, the company plans to develop more children's originals with international appeal as there are "more numbers outside of the U.S. watching kids content," Andy Yeatman, head of global kids' content, told The Hollywood Reporter.
In India, Netflix is launching "Mighty Little Bheem," a preschool version of the country's most popular kids' character. The streaming giant will also premiere the animated TV series "Yoohoo & Friends" in South Korea.
Meanwhile, Netflix also ordered a second season of its first animated international original "Las Leyendas," a Mexican animated fantasy series.
Executives at leading Indian OTT platforms Hotstar and Voot recently said that the aggressive push into local content by Netflix and Amazon.com Inc.'s Prime Video does not worry them.
