Report: US Treasury, EU antitrust chiefs to meet over Apple's Irish tax case

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is set to discussApple Inc.'s taxdealings in Ireland in aJuly 13 meeting with EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager.

Lew has urged Vestager to avoid ordering the tech giant topay any back taxes, Bloomberg News reported July 11, citing two people withknowledge of the case.

EU antitrust regulators reportedly drafted two potential scenariosabout the amount of tax Apple owes in Ireland. Vestager has been on how much tax Apple is dueto pay. A final verdict on the case is in July.

Lew earlier complained to European Commission PresidentJean-Claude Juncker that U.S. firms are becoming unfair targets of state aidprobes, according to the report. However, in a letter to Lew, Vestagerdenied that the EC isdeliberately targeting U.S. companies.
