ITV Studios, BBC near deal for extended iPlayer rights

ITV Studios Ltd. is nearing a deal to extend rights to its content on the British Broadcasting Corp.'s video-on-demand service iPlayer, TBI Vision reported.

ITV Studios Managing Director Julian Bellamy did not provide further details but said the ITV PLC unit is willing to pursue the agreement after "productive conversations" with the BBC.

The public broadcaster is still in negotiations with other content rights holders on a similar extension, according to the report.

U.K. media and telecom regulator Ofcom conditionally approved the BBC's plans to expand iPlayer's catch-up window for shows. The proposed changes include extending the availability of shows from 30 days to 12 months, with children's content accessible for five years. The broadcaster also intends to add more box-sets of shows to iPlayer.
