Report: OMB official now frontrunner to succeed Mulvaney at CFPB

Kathy Kraninger has emerged as the leading candidate to take over as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Bloomberg News reported, citing four people with knowledge of the matter.

Kraninger is an associate director at the Office of Management and Budget. She would succeed Mick Mulvaney, who has been acting as the bureau's head since November 2017.

Earlier in June, three other individuals were named frontrunners for the post: U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif.; credit union regulator Mark McWatters; and George Mason University law professor Todd Zywicki.
