1. JEA terminates CEO, adjusts inquiry for restructuring Fla. municipal utility

Florida municipal utility JEA's board of directors moved to terminate Managing Director and CEO Aaron Zahn and voted to present all possible ownership models under consideration for the utility at its next board meeting.

2. Tax package disappoints US clean energy advocates

Clean energy groups bemoaned a compromise tax extenders deal that congressional lawmakers agreed to early Dec. 17, saying the legislation does not do enough to support technology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

3. MIT study challenges need for methane capture, instead pushes renewables

Rather than trying to pin down and capture methane emissions leaking into the atmosphere because of its potent warming potential, policy makers can ignore methane reduction efforts and instead invest in renewables to meet climate change goals more efficiently, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology posit in a research paper.

4. Dominion plans to build nearly 1,000-MW gas-fired peaker in Virginia

Dominion Energy Virginia is planning to build a nearly 1,000-MW natural gas peaking plant in Chesterfield County, Va.

5. Gas ban monitor: Calif. commission approves 5 measures; 2nd Mass. ban advances

A number of municipality-level gas ban or electrification-focused measures moved forward recently despite opposition, finding support from policymakers in both California and Massachusetts.
