Report: Fiat Chrysler considering alliance with Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi

The Wall Street Journal May 25 reported that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is considering joining a three-way alliance with Renault SA, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.

Citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, the WSJ said talks among Fiat Chrysler and Renault about sharing vehicle platforms and engineering resources have gained traction in recent weeks. And one possible outcome of those talks, according to the report, is Fiat Chrysler joining a Renault, Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors alliance.

The report said such a move could help solve tensions between Renault and Nissan. The two companies are already allied but that relationship has become rocky after the 2018 arrest of then-Renault Chairman Carlos Ghosn, who had been pushing for the two companies to merge outright.
