Sony to merge imaging, home entertainment, mobile communications divisions

Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp. said March 26 that it is combining its core imaging, home entertainment, and mobile communications units into a single business.

Effective April 1, the company's imaging products and solutions, home entertainment and sound, and mobile communications segments will be merged into a single electronics products and solutions division.

Sony appointed Shigeki Ishizuka as officer in charge and Ichiro Takagi as deputy officer in charge of the newly created entity.

Sony previously announced that it will combine its TV, video and sound divisions to form a single entity called Sony Home Entertainment & Sound Products Inc.

The company on March 25 said it signed a deal to sell its "harmo" electronic medication notebook service business to CMIC HOLDINGS Co., Ltd.'s CMIC Healthcare Co. Ltd.
