Crestwood starts up 120-MMcf/d gas processing plant, extends Bakken contracts

Crestwood Equity Partners LP placed into service its Bear Den II natural gas processing plant and extended contracts for its Arrow crude oil, gas and water gathering system in the Bakken Shale.

The partnership also expanded the Bear Den West and Bear Den Loop pipelines, which are 36 miles of 20-inch high-pressure lines connecting the Bear Den processing complex to the Arrow gathering system in North Dakota, according to an Aug. 14 news release. The other facilities brought online include the Station 8 compression facility and a 27,500-horsepower compression station.

Located in Watford City, N.D., Bear Den II is a 120-MMcf/d cryogenic processing plant adjacent to the existing 30-MMcf/d Bear Den I plant. Bear Den II is currently processing about 65 MMcf/d of gas, which could increase to 100% of Arrow's gas gathering volumes in the third quarter. The processing complex allows for residue gas takeaway through Northern Border Pipeline Co. and, once completed, NGL takeaway through Oneok Inc.'s Elk Creek pipeline.

In addition, Crestwood announced that its Arrow system's daily gathering volumes surpassed 124,000 barrels per day of crude, 96 MMcf/d of gas and 84,000 bbl/d of produced water in August. The partnership attributed the increases to debottlenecking projects, growing initial production rates and reservoir productivity.

With these record volumes, Crestwood extended its long-term contracts with active producers on the Arrow system, leading to an average remaining term of 9.3 years. Currently, the Arrow system, on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, is underpinned by a 150,000-acre dedication and contracts with WPX Energy Inc., XTO Energy Inc., Bruin E&P Partners LLC, RimRock Oil & Gas, Enerplus Resources Corp., PetroShale Inc. and QEP Resources Inc.
