Tata Motors February domestic sales rise 38%

Tata Motors Ltd. reported 38% year-over-year domestic market sales growth in February with continued higher demand for commercial and passenger vehicles.

The automaker said it sold 58,993 units in February, up from 42,679 units the previous year. Exports, however, declined 3% for the same period with 4,768 units sold.

The company's commercial vehicle sales increased 36% during the month with 41,222 units sold. The boost was attributed to strong infrastructure developments, fresh tenders in car carriers, coal movement and the petroleum sector.

The M&HCV truck segment also posted higher sales numbers with 15,241 units sold, a 25% increase. I&LCV truck sales increased 54% to 4,810 units in February. SCV cargo and pickup sales doubled year over year with 16,014 units sold.

February sales of the commercial passenger vehicles followed the general upward trend with a 16% increase. A total of 5,157 units were sold during the month.

Tata Motors reported a 45% increase in sales of passenger vehicles with 17,771 units against 12,272 units the previous year. The UV segment saw a 165% increase while passenger car segment sales went up by 17%.

Between April 2017 and February 2018, the company sold a total of 167,055 passenger vehicles compared with 137,718 units last year, a 21% increase. Commercial Vehicles sales for the period rose 21% with 350,144 units sold.
